|
Gilmore Girls is known for its abundant popular culture references. Much of the dialogue is peppered with references to film, television shows, music, literature, and celebrity culture.The series explores the themes of family, friendship and romance, class and generational and social divisions. Ambition, education and work are also part of the central concerns of the series, tells the story of Lorelai pregnant teenage runaways and dropouts co-owner and director of the Dragonfly Inn. Rory transition from public school at the prestigious prep school, Chilton, is also followed by the series, exploring his ambition of studying at an Ivy League college and become a foreign correspondent. Social commentary shows most clearly in Lorelai's difficult relationship between the rich and upper class parents, Emily and Richard Gilmore, and interactions between students of Chilton, and later at Yale University.
